file compression technique

Introduction:

sound and video are the most mporatan elements of multmedia. The effectiveness of a multimedia project depends upon the type of sound and video effects used in the multimedia project. The are many formats of sound and video files, these format put a different impact on multimedia projects.

file compression technique:

The compression is a technique used to reduce the size of a file by compressing the data store in it, file compression help to reduce the size of file which enable us to store more data in a storing device.

The compression can be done by two ways

1. Without losing anything from original file
2. After losing some things from file

Common file compression algorithms includes:

  • Zip
  • bzip2
  • 7-zip
  • jpeg
  • mpeg

TYPES OF COMPRESSION:

Compression are of two types:

  • Lossy compression format
  • Lossless compression format
  • non- compression format

lossy compressed format :

In lossy compression the file size reduced to certain limits with losing some quality of the file.

In audio file compression remove the range of sound that the average listener can’t hear. we can control the sound quality and the size of the resulting file by selecting different sampling rates for the data. Here we can reduce the file dramatically,

Some examples of Lossy compression formats are:

Lossless compressed format:

The lossless compressed format reduce the size of a file without losing its quality.
This format works more or less like a Zip compression in lossless compression format the compression reduce the file size with some quality facts like we may not get the exact quality of the file

Some lossless compression formats are:

Non- compressed format:

the soundtracks stored in your CDs are uncompressed to the recording of sounds done by any recording hardware is generally non-compressed.

Some Non-compression formats are:

  • AU
  • AIF
  • WAV
