World Wide Web (WWW)
World wide web Is collection of millions of files stored on thousands of services all over the world this file represent documents, pictures, videos, sound, programs interactive environment.
Following are hardware software and protocols that make up web.
- A web server is a computer connected to the internet that runs on program that takes responsibility for storing retrieving and distributing some of the web files. a Web Client is computer that are request files from the web.
- Well defined set of languages and protocols that are independent of the hardware or operating systems are required to run on the computer.
- The hypertext markup language HTML is the universal language of web.
- Java is language for sending Small applications over the web. JavaScript is language for extending HTML to embed small program called script in web pages. the main purpose of the Java and script is to speed up the interactivity of web pages.
- VB script and active control Are Microsoft system that works with IE.
- Pictures drawings charts and diagrams are displate on web using image format such as JPEG and gift formats.
- Link to eat from another web pages.
- Link to it from a male message or news group articles.
Working of worldwide web:
www uses client server interaction, the browser program act as a client that use the internet to connect a remote server for a copy of requested page. The server on the remote system returns a copy of the page along with the additional information.
The additional information are www server returns tells the browser two important things
1. It describe how to display the information.
2. It gives a URL for each selectable items on the page.
When a browser receives a page from a remote server it displaced the page and then wait for the user to select one of the highlighted item. once a user makes a selection the browser consult the hidden information that arrives with the page to find URL that correspondent to the selection. The browser then uses the internet to obtain the newly selected page of information.
Each URL uniquely identifies a page of information by giving the name of the remote computer a server on the computer and a specific page of information available from the server.
World wide web was developed using the client server architecture, which ensures cross platform portability the www is officially described as a “wide area hypermedia Information retrieval unitive”. It is an information system that link data from many different internet services under One set of protocol.
Web client called browser interpret hypertext markup language document delivered from web servers.
The world wide web, is distributed, multimedia, hypertext system it is distributed since information on the web can be located on any computer system connected to the internet around the world.
