king Dasharath was a great warrior who ruled the kingdom of Ayodhya with his three queens Karshalya, Sumitra, and Kaiki. however, the king did not have a hair to the throne of his kingdom, as for the advice of the great sage Vashishta the king performed the putra kameshta Yagana, under the guidance of sage Shringa on completing the yagna lord agni emerged from the sacred fire holding a bowl of divine sweet which he asked the king to distribute among his wives very soon on Navami the queen Kaushalia gave birth to lord Rama while the other queens gave birth to Lakshmana Bharat and Shatrughan. ever since then the Navami on shukla paksha of the month of Chaitra is celebrated as Ramanavami across India with great pomp and celebrations.
