File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is an internet service that transfers a data file from the disk on one computer to the disk on another. File transfer service which can copy a large volume of data efficiently only required a single person to manage the transfer.

Like most other internet application File Transfer Protocol (FTP) uses the client service approach. A user invoke an FTP program on the computer, instruct it to connect a remote computer and then request the transfer of one or more files. The local File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program becomes a client that use is TCP to connect and File Transfer Protocol (FTP) service program on a remote computer. Each time the user request the client and the server program corporate to send a copy of the data across the internet. Illustrated the path data follows when a user request a copy of a file.

The File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server locate the file that the user requested, and uses TCP to send a copy of the entire content of the file across the internet to the client. As the client program received data it writes the data into the file on uses local disk. After the file transfer completely the client and the server programs terminate the TCP connection uses for transfer
