Output devices
Output devices and Electromagnet magical devices that produce information from a computer.
Output data may be obtained on paper or displayed on a terminal i.e monitor
hard copy:
when the output is obtained on paper it is called a hard copy
Soft copy:
when it is obtained on a display terminal or screen it is called soft copy.
An input devices is an electromechanical device that accepts data from the outside of the computer and translates them into computer interpretable or understand form.
Examples of Input devices: e keyboard, mouse, light pen, touch screen, camera, smart card reader, a biometric sensor, etc.
Output devices with examples and explanations:
1.Monitor:
- Monitor is type of output device.
- monitor is the most common output device for producing soft copy output.

Advantages of Monitor:
- Cheap and reliable
- Use for display text and graphics
Disadvantages of Monitor:
- Generate excess heat
- Use large amount of energy
2.Printers:
- Printers’ most common output device for producing hard copy output.
printer are classified into two categories impact and non impact.
2.1 non-impact printer:
in a non-impact printer, the characters is print on the paper by using Heat leaser Technology.
in non impact printer the page
Example: the injet printer, laser printer.
Inject printer creates an image in direct on the pages by separating ink through a nozzle.

Advantages of Inkjet Printer:
- Produce good quality print
- Cheap to buy
- Can produce color image
Disadvantages Inkjet Printer:
- Cartridges are expensive
- Slow as compared to laser printer
Laser Printer:
Laser Printers are more expensive than inkjet printers their print quality is higher and our faster.
Advantages of Laser Printer:
- Fast in printing speed
- produce good quality print and high resolution.
- Can produce a color image
Running cost is low.
Disadvantages of Laser Printer:
- Expensive printers.
2.2 Impact printer
An impact printer creates an image by pressing and inked Ribbon against the paper using pin to shape the image.
Examples are: Dot Matrix printer
Dot Matrix printer :
Dot Matrix Printer (dmpr) are character printer that forms character and all kind of image as Pattern of dot in series.
Disadvantages of Dot Matrix printer
They are noisy is they are impact printer.
Advantages of Dot Matrix printer:
- Can print on multi-part stationary or make Ribbon copies
- Impact printer has one of the lowest printing costs per page
- The ink is long-lasting i.e not dry easily.
- Rough and tough reliable printer
Disadvantages of Dot Matrix printer:
- The quality of printer is not as good as the inkjet.
- laser printer Low-quality print.
3.plotter:
- The plotter is a specialized output device designed to produce high-quality graphics in a variety of colours.
Plotters are of two types:
- drum plotter
- flatbed plotter.
3.1 drum plotter:
In drum plotter, the paper on which the design has been made is placed over a drum, then drum can rotate in both clockwise and anticlockwise direction to produce vertical motion.
3.2 Flatbed plotter:
Flatbed plotter is use two robotic arms each of which holds a set of colours in pen or pencil.
Advantages of Plotter:
- Can print large sizes of papers
- plotter can produce good quality Prints in high resolution
Disadvantages of Plotter:
- Slower than printer
- Expensive
4. Speaker:
Speaker is an output device that can of different sizes and qualities speaker is an output device that produces sound as output.
